A unique frame designed for a passionate collector
At Lunetier Ludovic, some creations are like no others. This bespoke frame, handcrafted in our Brussels workshop, is a perfect example.
Commissioned by a Middle Eastern watch collector, it embodies an unexpected encounter between bespoke eyewear and mechanical watchmaking. In each branch, antique components - cogs, bridges, wheels - have been meticulously inlaid into the horn. Not as a decorative effect, but as a way of capturing a passion, of fixing time in matter.
Creating this piece required a sure hand, the patience of a goldsmith, and a constant concern to preserve the balance, comfort and integrity of the material. Every step, from design to assembly, has been designed to ensure that technique fades behind the obviousness of the result.
"I'm convinced that well-made objects have a soul. In this frame, the organic warmth of the horn dialogues with the mechanical beat of a watch movement."
- Ludovic Elens, founder
Slowly, piece by piece
There's no quick method for this kind of work. Each piece has to be fitted by hand, one by one. You have to check, adjust and sometimes start again. Nothing must move or disturb. It's not always visible to the naked eye, but you can tell when it's been done badly.
It has to be right. Everything has to fit together naturally, without forcing it. The pieces come from watch movements where each part must be in its place, to the micron - they must find this form of coherence here too. Nothing must appear to be added. The whole must remain fluid and obvious.
